LCD SoundSystem and Hot Chip
By James Marallich

The what: Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem turn the Hordern Pavilion into the craziest dance party Mondays have seen in a very long time.

Splendour innit? Innit indeed. Seeing the (m)punters party like crazy on a Monday night makes me sad that I won't be at Splendour in the Grass. Seeing either of these bands play in a tent in the middle of nowhere is sure to be the super happiest fun time you will have all year.

How were Hot Chip? Here's the thing. On the ticket it said that doors open at 8pm. And on the website it said that Hot Chip play at 8pm. So what do I do? I get there just after 8 and the line is crazy. I finally get in and the Hot Chip nerds are jumping around on stage decked out in sweater vests. Or something.

Now I'm not a Hot Chip fan, but they put on a pretty fun show. They had the cheesy pop tunes cranking and it was the perfect compliment to James Murphy & Co. They probably played Over and Over while I was waiting to get in but the only song I recognised was I Feel Better.

Are they worth seeing at Splendour? Totally. Assuming you will be inebriated and in the mood to dance like a dumbass these guys will certainly not let you down.

They still sound kinda average on record. Yes they do.

And LCD Soundsystem? Well, they were amazing. The lights were rad; the smoke machine was toking like a stoner and the huge ass disco ball was spinning like crazy.

Songs please. They started with Us VS Them, went into Get Innocuous and then Drunk Girls. Then (in no particular order coz I wasn't keeping tabs) we had Daft Punk is Playing at My House, Yeah (Crass Version), North American Scum, Pow Pow and for the encore we got Losing my Edge and an Empire State of Mind-chorused closer with New York, I Love You But You're Bringing me Down. And um, other songs were played too.

What were they like in the Hordern? To my surprise they sold out the venue. And they have the cojones to really fill out the place, metaphorically speaking. Jimbob was cool as can be on stage and kept mentioning his drummer. For some reason.

So that's the last time we'll see James Murphy and band? Very possibly. The word is they're disbanding after the tour. But if they were to go out on the strength of this gig it'll leave a pleasant memory in my mind.

The Verdict: There are gonna be a few people coming down tomorrow. Seriously, who takes drugs on a Monday night? If this were a Friday or Saturday show it would have been off the hook. Still it was as perfect as any Monday night gig could ever be. Hot Chip are pretty cool live and LCD Soundsystem remain untouchable. Was I the only one that enjoyed it? Let's see
